Get in touch

Contacting Us

Call 19842906851 if a spring has let go, a panel is dented, or an opener has quit on you. We're based at 505 S Duke St, Durham, NC 27701, about a mile south of downtown.

Varied neighborhood house ages

That spot puts us close to the older neighborhoods on the north side of the city as well as the newer subdivisions further out, which matters because the two kinds of houses have almost nothing in common under the hood.

No walk-in counter

We don't run a walk-in parts counter, so if you're trying to match a roller or a cable end yourself, call first and describe what's on the door - brand, panel count, whether the springs sit above the door or beside it. That ten-minute conversation saves a wasted trip for both of us.

Cross street location clues

If you leave a message, tell us the cross street or the neighborhood you're in; Durham's older grid streets and the newer loop-road subdivisions read very differently on a map, and knowing which one you're in tells us a lot before we ever see the door.

Quick answers

Straight Answers

Most of the houses we work on here were built between 1967 and 2006, with the bulk going up during the 1980s and 90s across seven named pockets of the area.

Legacy torsion hardware limits

That matters more than people think: a door from a 1980s build often still has its original torsion hardware, sized for a lighter panel than what gets sold today, and the brackets don't always match a modern retrofit kit without some adapting.

Temperature swings wear springs

We're in a cold-moderate climate band here, not a hard-freeze zone, so we don't see the extreme spring fatigue you'd get further north - but temperature swings still shorten the life of a torsion spring faster than a sheltered door in a mild climate. That's a real factor in sizing a replacement spring, not just a sales line.

Replacement over chasing parts

Here's the honest limit: if your door is from the earlier end of that 1967 build range and the track or hinge pattern is obsolete, we may tell you replacement beats repair rather than chase a part that's slow to source. We'd rather say that up front than have you wait two weeks on a part for a door that's due for retirement anyway.

Where We Travel

We stay close to home base. Downtown is a mile north of the shop, East Durham a mile ENE, Duke Forest two miles west, and Hope Valley three miles southwest - all inside what we'd call the easy run. Old West Durham and Watts Hospital-Hillandale sit three miles NNW, and the Interstate 85 corridor and Stadium Heights are about four miles north.

Further out, we still make the drive: Gorman is seven miles out, Research Triangle Park six miles SSE, Parkwood six miles south, Northeast Durham and Brier Creek Country Club around seven miles. Beyond that we'll go to Morrisville at ten miles, Carrboro at eleven, Hillsborough at thirteen, Butner at fourteen, Creedmoor at sixteen, and Efland at seventeen.

Across the roughly 30,655 households in that service area, about 9,094 are owner-occupied houses - the kind of property that tends to call us for spring, opener, and track work rather than routine maintenance on a rental. If you're outside this rough radius, call anyway; distance alone isn't always the deciding factor, timing often is.

Questions

Common questions

Do you work on doors in the older parts of Durham, not just new builds?

Yes. A good share of what we see comes from houses built in the 1980s and 90s, which often means original torsion springs and hardware that doesn't match what's sold new. We carry adapters for common mismatches and will tell you honestly when a part is hard enough to source that replacement makes more sense than repair.

How far outside Durham will you drive for a repair call?

We regularly go out to Gorman, Morrisville, Carrboro, Hillsborough, Butner, Creedmoor, and Efland, with Gorman the closest at seven miles and Efland the furthest at seventeen. Closer in, we cover Downtown, East Durham, Duke Forest, Hope Valley, and the other near-in pockets within a few miles of our shop on S Duke St.

Does Durham's climate affect how long a spring lasts?

We're in a cold-moderate band here, not extreme cold, but seasonal temperature swings still wear down torsion springs faster than they would in a mild climate. It's one of the things we factor into sizing a replacement spring rather than just swapping in whatever's on the shelf.
